Positioned close to the Congo-Nile Crest, Kibingo washing station was founded in 1986 and for the last thirty-plus years has provided cherry processing and a solid base of knowledge to its farmer partners. It is known locally for its wooden bridge that was built over the river that runs through its grounds.

The name 'Kibingo' derives from the Kirundi word urubingo which means 'reeds'. It earned the moniker after the planting of reeds along the river to contain the water and to prevent the surrounding soils from eroding.

Over 3500 local coffee farmers have their cherries processed here, amounting to more than 750 tons of coffee across the harvest.
