Technically a genetic defect, a peaberry occurs when only one bean forms in the coffee cherry rather than two. This occurs in individual cherries rather than across the entire parent tree. It is distinguished from its normally proportioned brethren when sorting is undertaken before washing to separate different sizes of bean, a standard practice in Kenya. The parchment is then fermented, washed and sun dried.

Despite the implied negative of its nature, the result is a sweeter coffee as a result of the one bean absorbing a greater portion of all the flavour and sugar of the cherry it inhabits. This is reflected in the cup, scoring a heady 90 points by Cup of Excellence standards. Thus we have here an incredibly juicy washed coffee exploding with fruity flavour and floral sweetness.
